Neetu or Nithya?

 "Education is not the amount of knowledge that is put into the human brain..."

These are the words from a video that recently went viral on social media.


What exactly is education? Is there a connection between knowledge and wisdom? What is the definition of intellect? Let us examine.


First, I will introduce you to two people, Neetu and Nithya. Neetu is the voice inside my Bluetooth speaker. Nithya is the voice inside Amazon Echo Dot (although she is known as Alexa, I am calling her Nithya). Both of them have very nice voices.


Neetu speaks very little. Little means only the following,

  • Power on
  • Power off
  • Connected
  • Disconnected
  • Please charge
  • You have an incoming call

She does not know anything other than this while Nithya can interact like a person. She knows a lot. So which of them is the wisest?

Isn’t it obvious, Nithya? Right?

 

Or is she?

 

Neetu indeed knows very little. But she uses what she knows very accurately. She never said that the power is on when turned off and never said disconnected when connected. And she does not even bother to talk about what she can not comprehend. Does not Neetu have the traits of the wisest? Nithya, on the other hand, sometimes makes mistakes. Wisdom is not about the knowledge, but how you are using that knowledge. So Neethu seems wiser than Nithya, right?

 

Now let's think about it another way. The Saraswathi of the cyber world, Google, is defining intelligence as the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills.

 

You have already seen that Neetu is good at applying knowledge accurately. Not as good as Neetu, but Nitya is not bad at that either. But the definition of intellect does not end there. Must also be able to acquire new knowledge. Neetu is a complete failure in that. But Nitya is always learning new things, trying not to repeat mistakes. Here Neetu is a machine. Nithya is artificial intelligence. Every human being is either Neethu or Nithya.

 

We, as a student, can only succeed if we have an understanding of the practical levels of the knowledge we have acquired. Otherwise, one would be left wondering why we have learned so many theories that are of no use in life. The word education only makes sense if it also gave students an idea of ​​where to apply what they have learned.

 

It is not the amount of knowledge or years of experience that make us better, but the lessons we have learned from it.

 

Remembering the words of a great man, everyone should always be a good student.
